Episode 41: Confessions of a Nipple Consultant (PART 2)

Talk Sex with Dick podcast episode 41

This week on Talk Sex with Dick, Gabby returns to talk about her experience as a Story Producer at Bravo with NYC Sex Therapist Dr. Richard Mills.

Working at Bravo on shows like The Real Housewives of Potomac and now The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Gabby talks about her experiences working formally as a Production Assistant on shows like Say Yes To the Dress.  She goes on to discuss what it’s like working at Bravo with Andy Cohen.

Trying to dig in and have her spill some tea about what we should expect with the upcoming season on the Atlanta franchise, she would only discuss that which is already made public. Due to her non-disclosure agreement with Bravo, she had to remain very tight-lipped about certain information on the show.

Lights, Camera, no Nipples….

Gabby explained the process of editing an episode.  At times I’ve had to rip her away from the editing studio, when she is on a deadline. While the recipes of most episodes consist of content and commercials – it takes her about seven weeks to produce a single episode.

While the title of Story Producer has its perks, after weeks and weeks of editing and nearly forty-five minutes of content and the stress of producing a dynamic storyline that will keep the viewer tuning in, one has to wonder if it’s worth it.

All nipples are NOT created equal…

Gabby goes on to talk about how nipples (specifically a female-identified nipple) is discriminated against within television culture

Talking about her former days as a Nipple Consultant (FKA a Production Assistant), she discusses that even today as a Story Producer she has to cover up and blur various body parts due to Standards & Regulations.

When asked about specific words and phrases, she explained that while you can call someone an “asshole” or “pussy,” it cannot contain sexual undertones.

Going further into her experience of being a Nipple Consultant and rising to the ranks of Story Producer at Bravo, there is much work that goes into each episode to ensure Americans are protected from the nipple.

And other stuff…
